The Heartbreaking Havoc of the Haunting Hack-A-Ween is the Halloween special of The Epic Tales of Captain Underpants.
Synopsis[]
When Krupp and Melvin try to cancel Halloween, clever best friends Harold and George create their own spooky holiday, and it's a huge success.
Summary[]
Part 1[]
George Beard and Harold Hutchins are at Hall-O-Ware House to buy supplies and candy for Halloween. When they leave, they see Melvin and Mr. Krupp holding signs. Melvin tells George and Harold that Halloween must be canceled, but George and Harold didn't want Halloween canceled permamently, so they come up with a plan at lunchtime.
Later, at Jerome Horwitz Elementary School, Mr. Krupp offers anti-Halloween t-shirts to Ms. Ribble, Miss Anthrope, Mr. Meaner, Mr. Rected, Moses Beard, Barbara Beard, Grace Hutchins and Mr. Ree to convince them to support banning Halloween.
Mr. Krupp and Melvin then go to a town meeting. After Hoppy McChapper rejects the idea of adding dinosaur benches to the town park (which prompts Diddlysaurus to leave), Mr. Krupp asks the adults multiple questions, leading them to doubt if Halloween is even worth celebrating.
Determined to save Halloween, George, Harold, and Erica go to a macabre house. They are let in by Creeply Rattlechains, the owner of the Hall-O-Warehouse. He allows George and Harold to convert his home into a haunted house.
Jayden Beard, Mary Beard, and Grace Hutchins are the first ones to enter. Finding the experience of being scared exhilarating, they sign a signature to uncancel Halloween. Melvin then uses an Inanimaitator 2000 to bring the Halloween decorations to life. The boys turn Krupp into Captain Underpants to defeat The Evil Living Halloween Decorations. Captain Underpants puts the monsters in a closet and wraps Creeply's house in underwear.
Thinking their plan succeeded, George and Harold tell Creeply that they have enough signatures to uncancel Halloween, but Melvin makes Halloween illegal, which horrifies George and Harold, before the cops try to arrest them.
Part 2[]
George and Harold have to make a plan to stop all this, and all of their friends accepted. Mr. Krupp is happy because there’s is no more Halloween the people are saying that Halloween needs a party, despite it being illegal.
George and Harold show a video to Erica, Jessica Gordon, Bo Hweemuth, Steve Yamaguchi, Dressy Killman, Stanley Peet, and The Sophies called Hack-o-ween, where instead of costumes, they wear disguises, despite Erica saying that they're the same thing, Sneak-or-Snack instead of Trick-or-Treat, and instead of original Halloween monsters, Hack-o-Ween monsters like an orca doctor, a mix of a scorpion and an onion, and a frozen cobra.
Melvin saw the video and Gaylord Sneedly and Cindy Sneedly make a playdate for him with Gooch, but the only way Melvin interacts with Gooch is by taking the five dollar bill out of his hand, and closing the door.
On October 31. George and Harold got caught by Mr. Krupp trying to sneak-or-snack and when they where at his house, he wanted George and Harold arrested, but Hoppy told Krupp that Hack-o-Ween is beautifully legal, so Krupp snaps his own figures and turns himself into Captain Underpants.
George and Harold asked Melvin to go with them because he never went trick-or-treating (or, in this instance, Sneak-or-Snacking) with them 38 minutes ago, but Melvin has turned the balloons into evil balloons Hack-O-Ween Balloons on accident.
They try to attack Captain Underpants, but George and Harold and Captain Underpants popped the balloons, and despite that they defeated the balloons, Creeply's house became alive too, and since water got on Captain Underpants, who turned back into Mr. Krupp in this effect, they ended up being by themselves, and they and Melvin battle the animate house... by making a comic.
After that comic, it's inanimate again, but Creeply got a bill on his house for it. After George, Harold, and Melvin took care of all that chaos, Halloween was back on, despite Hack-o-ween not being a perfect plan like Hoppy said.
Trivia[]
- This special is also known as "The Spooky Tale of Captain Underpants Hack-a-Ween."
- This is the first holiday special of the series.
- A running gag is that Harold and George are always saying disguises are a Hack-a-Ween replacement for costumes, even though Erica tells them they're the same thing.
- In a flashback, the zombie plumbers costumes George and Harold use to scare Melvin vaguely resemble Mario and Luigi from the multimedia franchise, Super Mario.
- This is the first episode where The M.I.S.F.A.R.T.S. (Mega Incredible Search Force Adventure Rescue Team Squad) are in Harold and George's tree house.
- During the balloon battle, Captain Underpants takes a shower in his underwear, and he doesn't turn back into Mr. Krupp, even though that's what water is supposed to always do to him. The water might be fake.
- Harold and George were going to turn Mr. Krupp back into Captain Underpants the third time for the haunted house, but unfortunately, he's all wet, and they couldn't dry him off because they didn't have anything for that, so they had no choice but to do it themselves, they leave Captain Underpants not returning once again for the rest of the episode.
- Moral: Be sure to include everyone when having fun.
- Harold and George change a sign at the end, but this is the only time they don't make it a phony sign. They instead make it into a special sign about Halloween being back on, it reads "Halloween is back on. Get your ghost on".
- In one scene, Captain Underpants suffocates from being smacked into the tree, causing his head to turn purple, before being saved by Melvin's inhaler. This scene is similar to him suffocating smelling Poopacabra in The Preposterous Pulverizing of the Pestering Poopacabra.
- It is implied that Grace Hutchins is dating Mr. Meaner, and the thought of this probably disgusted Harold beyond belief when that idea popped into his head and Mr. Meaner smirked at him.
- Diddlysaurus makes a cameo in town hall.
- The chapter "Thrillegal" is a reference to the song "Thriller" by Michael Jackson.
- The chapter "The Scarent Trap" is a reference to the movie The Parent Trap.
- Other Sophie's disguise resembles Hannibal Lecter from Silence of the Lambs.
