The Xtreme Xploits of the Xplosive Xmas is the Christmas special of The Epic Tales of Captain Underpants.

Synopsis[]

Christmas gets weird--very weird, after George and Harold change some of the original traditions for Christmas. [1]

Summary[]

Part 1[]

During December, George and Harold are walking when Melvin comes, talking about his favorite drink, hamnog, of which he stored a lifetime supply in tubes for the next 10,000 years. At George's house, his father, Moses Beard, reads a book called "Twas the Eve Before Christmas" to the boys. Feeing the holiday is rusty and old-fashioned, George and Harold decide to update Christmas and make a comic book to write down their ideas. Moses, Barbara Beard, and Grace Hutchins tell the boys that Christmas is about putting others before yourself. The narrator then shows a stop motion-animated flashback from 300 years ago, where a young Santa Claus tries to pitch the idea of Christmas to numerous companies from around the world.

The next day, Mr. Krupp sends George and Harold to his office for using the copier. He tells them that Ms. Hurd died and that none of the other teachers would help him direct the school Christmas pageant, so he makes George and Harold do it instead. The boys change the pageant to being about Blissmas. After the pageant ends, the parents don't like it and take their anger out on Krupp. Mr. Krupp makes George and Harold do labor work on Christmas Eve, so the boys decide to use the Time Toad 2000 to travel back in time and convince a past Santa to alter Christmas. Before they go, they visit the mall and turn Mr. Krupp into Captain Underpants, who promptly asks a Santa Claus actor what he wants for Christmas. An elf named Yule tells George and Harold that Christmas started in 1720. At Melvin's house, George and Harold give Melvin a Christmas present to distract him while Captain Underpants steals The Time Toad.

Part 2[]

In 1720, George, Harold, and Captain Underpants get out of the time machine and are attacked by elves. Captain Underpants and the boys try to escape, but the reindeer and elves attack them again. Santa Claus tells the heroes that he wants to give more than others. He says he's going to send joy everywhere, so George and Harold give him the comic they made before, convincing him to change Christmas to Blissmass. The three go back to the present, and Captain Underpants reverts to Mr. Krupp and gets launched on a flying tree at a dome. As they celebrate the new Blissmass, George and Harold believe everyone likes Blissmass, but that couldn't be further than the truth.

Erica tells them that everyone gives Santa presents, instead of the other way around. Santa Claus, now called "Jacked Santa," make George and Harold V.I.P.s to his club and tells them that if they win the robot derby, he will do whatever they say. George and Harold turn Mr. Krupp into Captain Underpants again to fight the robots, and Melvin builds a giant robot called Mech-the-halls 2000 After Deco-Rama, Captain Underpants throws ham nog at the robot, leaving Melvin sad. Jacked Santa uses a giant robot to attack Captain Underpants. Fortunately, George and Harold find the book owned by George's father and use it to remind Santa about what Christmas is really about. After Santa Claus comes back to his senses, Christmas is back to normal. Captain Underpants receives an anthropomorphic giraffe named Jeffraffle, and George and Harold give Melvin even more ham nog. Santa Claus later makes a movie about the events of the special for George and Harold and invites them to the premiere. Captain Underpants comes along, right when the movie premiere has ended, much to his dissapoinment.

Trivia[]

  • Like The Heartbreaking Havoc of the Haunting Hack-A-Ween, "The Xtreme Xploits of the Xplosive Xmas" also involves a unique nickname for the holiday of focus. Halloween's nickname is Hack-A-Ween, while Christmas's nickname is Blissmas.
  • This episode is also known as "Captain Underpants Mega Blissmas".
  • Melvin is obsessed with hamnog, a fictional drink inspired by eggnog.
  • This is the first episode where Harold and George don't wear their regular clothes. Instead, they wear Christmas sweaters throughout the whole episode.
  • In the books, Mr. Krupp was Jewish, but in this continuity, he celebrates Christmas with no mention of Jewish traditions whatsoever. This outraged a lot of fans, feeling it was disrespectful to Jewish readers and the book series itself. It is likely due to writers being unaware of that trait.
  • Edith makes three cameos as a Christmas caroler.
  • Moral: Always put others need first before your own.
  • The fire dinosaur first two designs are based off of Godzilla himself
  • This special isn't the first time in any media where Santa is portrayed as a selfless character.
  • Jay Gragnani's puberty is even more apparent in this special.
  • The plush Harold holds near the beginning of the special is Altitooth from The Abysmal Altercation of the Abominable Altitooth.
  • The Lee Dingman Christmas Special may be a reference to The Star Wars Holiday Special, which is disliked by most of the franchise's fandom.
